A Residential Childcare Company with a Long Heritage

The founder and CEO of Blue Elephant Childcare Keith Burley, has over 35 years’ experience as a qualified social worker spending all that time in the residential childcare sector. He has built three successful childcare companies and has used all his experience and commitment to ensure that Blue Elephant Childcare is the most child centred, aspirational and effective company so far.

South West based, Blue Elephant will always be a small company of between six and eight homes, all working together to make sure that the community of Blue Elephant benefits all the young people we work with.

Keith and his team work tirelessly to understand the needs of the young people they care for, they adapt their services to meet changing needs and always keep the young people at the very centre of everything they do.

Keith often challenges his staff to explain how what they do improves the care they provide for the young people, by keeping this at the forefront of everyone’s thinking a truly child centred organisation is beginning to grow.

Why ‘Blue Elephant Childcare’?

Elephants have one of the strongest senses of community in the natural world:

  • They run a society where moral authority is shared
  • The young are held in great esteem
  • When the young are in danger everyone steps in to help and support
  • This even occurs when the young are ‘down’ or ‘blue’

At Blue Elephant Childcare we work with young people in a manner by which the whole organisation works to ensure the safety, aspirations and growth of their young people are paramount.

Do I need any qualifications?

We ideally want only experienced and qualified staff working with our young people. However, we are also committed to developing the residential childcare sector workforce and therefore will take on a limited number of inexperienced unqualified staff, who will be supported to learn the role and to achieve their level three diploma.

What are the hours?

You will be required to work shifts that will include starting early, finishing late, working weekends, bank holidays (including Christmas Day!) You will also be expected to complete sleeping in duties for which additional payment is included. (We are committed to ensuring that all staff receive at least the NLW when they work for Blue Elephant Childcare Ltd).

Do I need to be able to drive?

Because of the locations of our homes and the need to transport young people around you must have a full driving license. Our homes are often isolated you will need access to a motor vehicle to get you to your place of work.

What else do I need to know?

Blue Elephant Childcare Ltd is committed to providing a safe environment and safeguarding the welfare of our young people. The recruitment and selection process is rigorous and intrusive and includes all staff undergoing an enhanced DBS Check.
